Economic impact
Founded Globacom Limited in 2003, Nigeria's second-largest mobile telecommunications operator by subscriber count; as of 2024, Globacom served approximately 60 million subscribers across Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, and Côte d'Ivoire. Globacom launched Nigeria's first per-second billing system in 2003, a pricing change that forced industry-wide tariff restructuring across all four licensed operators. Controls Conoil PLC, a petroleum-products marketing company privatised in 2000 from the former African Petroleum; Conoil operates more than 300 retail service stations across Nigeria. Also controls Conoil Producing, an upstream oil operator with positions in several onshore Niger Delta blocks.
