# Sir Sam Jonah

Served as President and Chief Executive of Ashanti Goldfields Corporation from 1986 to 2004; during that tenure, annual gold production rose from approximately 240,000 troy ounces to 1.6 million troy ounces, making Ashanti the world's second-largest gold producer by output at its peak. Led the 1996 listing of Ashanti Goldfields on the New York Stock Exchange, the first sub-Saharan African company to list on a major U.S. exchange. Played a central role in brokering the 2004 merger with AngloGold to create AngloGold Ashanti, a combined entity with production assets across 12 countries. Founded Jonah Capital in 2004, a Johannesburg-based private equity firm active in energy, natural resources, and infrastructure on the African continent.
