# Aliko Dangote

Founded the Dangote Group in Lagos in 1981 as a commodity trading company; by 2024, the group had repositioned as a diversified manufacturer with cement capacity of 55 million tonnes per year across plants in 11 African countries, the largest cement-production footprint on the continent. The Dangote Lekki Refinery and Petrochemicals complex, located on a 2,635-hectare site in Lagos State and completed in 2023, has a nameplate crude-processing capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, making it the single largest petroleum refinery in Africa; a planned expansion to 1.4 million barrels per day is expected to generate approximately 65,000 direct and indirect jobs, per Dangote Group's 2023 operational briefings. The Dangote Fertiliser plant, commissioned in 2022, produces 3 million metric tonnes of urea annually, targeting Nigeria's 50-million-metric-tonne annual fertiliser deficit.
